Acoma New Mexico Pottery

Acoma Pueblo is located about 50 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  It is one of the oldest continually inhabited communities in the United States.  Their pottery is characterized by very thin walled vessles with white, black, and orange slip for the design.  Traditionally the slip is applied with a yucca brush and they are polished by hand.  Lucy Lewis, now deceased, is credited with reviving the art in the early part of the 1900's.
