Old pawn or dead pawn is items which a pawnshop customer did not redeem within the allowed time. Subject to a variety of rules and regulations, the pawn shop owner is allowed to sell these items to recover his loan.
When speaking of Indian jewelry, Old pawn implies quality. The tradition was customers would sometimes pawn there really good jewelry and then fail to pay the loan. The result was exceptional pieces of jewelry occasionally becoming available.
We have been able to buy a few pieces of genine old pawn Indian jewlery and will be publishing pictures and details on our Old Pawn website. I would be very careful about accepting that status as genuine unless you really know what you are doing and/or have done careful research.
